I spent two days in an Apple retail store this week, and while I was able to spend my days playing some virtual reality games like “Space Pirate Trainer,” “Gravity Rush,” and “Halo 5,” I couldn’t find any way to play some of the Oculus-developed, HTC Vive games that Apple has released.
“It’s like, we can’t make them anymore, but they are still available,” said Tim Murch, cofounder and CEO of Oculus VR, which made its first-ever hardware purchase with the HTC Vive headset in January.
“There’s just no way.”
Apple’s Oculus Rift, like its more expensive Rift line of headsets, is a virtual reality headset that uses a pair of sensors to track your head and then send a virtual image to your headset.
But the Oculus headsets can’t support positional tracking like the Rift, so they use a special kind of tracking that involves rotating your head 180 degrees around your head while using your eyes to adjust your position.
When the Oculus VR controllers hit the market, they didn’t come with any way for you to adjust the orientation of your head as it moved around in virtual space.
I played around with the Oculus Touch controllers on the HTC Rift headset, and the controllers felt a little weird.
While I could adjust the position of my head, it felt awkward.
When I switched to the Oculus headset, the controls moved more easily, but the movement felt unnatural.
I didn’t feel comfortable with the setup, and when I tried the Oculus controller on the Oculus Home headset, it didn’t really work.
Apple didn’t respond to a request for comment, but Apple’s official response to VR headset concerns in its product announcements reads, “The Oculus Touch Controller has an improved sensor design, allowing the user to accurately track their head and orientation.
We believe this is an important improvement over the previous version of the controller, and we are excited to continue to improve it with future hardware releases.”
That statement didn’t mention a positional tracking system.
Apple has also made some of its own improvements to the hardware.
In September, the company unveiled a new headset with a much more comfortable fit and feel, a new “Headband” that lets you wear the headset on your head, and a new wireless charging dock.
It’s also rumored that Apple is working on a pair for its Macbook Pro, which has a more comfortable, ergonomic design than the Oculus Oculus Rift headset.
“I have never been a huge fan of the Vive because it was just not really designed for my head,” said Murch.
Apple’s “HTC Vive” VR headset was made with the help of a company called Oculus VR.
I spent the entire week playing some of those games, but I didn´t notice any significant difference in how the headsets felt.
I’m not sure if Apple will ever bring positional tracking to the Rift and Vive, but if Apple wants to bring positional input to other headsets, I’d recommend checking out the Oculus and HTC headsets.
Apple is making some big hardware moves to make VR more accessible.
In June, it introduced a new virtual reality display that uses light to make images appear as if they’re moving in real space.
Apple released a pair with a camera built into the device that captured images and videos, allowing developers to create immersive experiences that look like they’re in a real room.
But for the most part, I’m just not sure what Apple is going to do with positional tracking in the future, because positional tracking doesn’t feel very natural.
Oculus VR has also released its own headset called the Oculus Connect, which is a wireless headset that’s capable of sending a 360-degree view of your environment to your VR headset.
You can plug the headset into an existing computer and then use that computer’s wireless keyboard to type commands.
But Oculus Connect doesn’t allow for the same kind of head tracking that you would with a Rift or Vive.
I found it hard to figure out how to get the Oculus to recognize my head and adjust the positions of my virtual eyes, even though the headset uses a very similar tracking system to the HTC VR headsets.
Murch said that Oculus VR will work on making positional tracking work in future devices, but that it’s not something that will be released for the consumer market anytime soon.
“If we can figure out a way to get that to work in the consumer space, then we’ll probably be able to ship it to the consumer,” he said.
“But it’s something that we can work on.”
Apple also announced some of Oculus’s latest hardware changes.
Earlier this month, the Cupertino, California-based company unveiled its new iMac and iMac Pro gaming PCs.
These new PCs will feature the same new GPU and CPU cores as the current iMacs and iBooks, which were released earlier this year.
